Frequently asked questions and their answers
Below you will find answers to some of the common questions that we find people may have when researching and learning about Assisted Living and Independent Living facilities and services.
Question: What is Assisted Living? What is Independent Living?
Answer: An Assisted Living Residence is defined by the Assisted Living Federation of America as a special combination of housing, personalized supportive services and health care designed to meet the needs, both scheduled and unscheduled, of those who need help with activities of daily living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, eating and monitoring medications. Independent living is for older people who are totally independent and are looking to settle with peers and enjoy a comfortable but active lifestyle.
Question:Is the cost of assisted living covered by health insurance?
Answer: Residents or families generally pay the cost of assisted living from their own financial resources. Some types of long-term care insurance may reimburse for all or a portion of the assisted living cost.
Question: How is the cost determined?
Answer: The cost of assisted living is based on the type of room and the types of services each resident requires. Before a resident moves into our community an assessment of needs is done and then depending on the personal requirements of the resident we establish the cost of care.
Question: What is the length of commitment?
Answer: There is no long-term commitment. All rent is on a month-to-month basis. A 30 day notice is required before a resident can move out, unless there is a specific change in the resident's health care status that might require a higher level of care.
Question: May residents decorate their own apartments?
Answer: The residents' rooms are their home. Furnishing and decorating is the prerogative of the resident and their family, or friends. Each room is fully equipped with furniture however if the resident would like to bring their own furniture that is perfectly acceptable. If you have more questions about decoration, don't hesitate to ask!
Question: Can I entertain guests?
Answer: Absolutely! Residents are more than welcome to invite friends and family to dine with them at the community. An additional charge will apply, and we request advance reservations.
Question: Are residents’ allowed to have pets?
Answer: Because we value the bond people have with their pets, we invite you to have your small pet live with you at our community. We want you to smile, laugh, and feel good! We accept most small pets, and have minimal deposit requirements to make the necessary accommodations.
Question: Am I free to come and go as I please?
Answer: Definitely! You are always free to come and go as you please however for our residents' safety we do ask that you notify the staff if you plan on leaving the building.
Question: Do residents have any voice in the community?
Answer: Yes. Our community has a Resident Council that provides community management with resident input about services, programs and other items that concern residents. Our scheduled monthly meetings are displayed on the activity calendar.
